Brisas Del Mar Group

Brisas Del Mar Group's story

19-year-old Priscila, a single woman who lives with her parents in the department/state of Suchitepequez, has 3 siblings. She has a sixth grade education and left school afterwards.

She is very motivated, and three years ago began selling fruit, beverages and her own recipes for regional snacks. She sells in the local school each morning and from her home on weekends. Her mother helps her attend to customers. Her goal is to open her own storefront. She requests her first Kiva loan to buy bread baked tortillas (“tostadas”), fruit, oil and more ingredients for her recipes.

Priscila was elected President of her Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Brisas del Mar” by seven women. They raise animals, or sell prepared foods including “tamales”, chicken with fried potatoes, regional snacks, and fruit smoothies.

After Priscila calls the meetings to order, the ladies make loan payments and then participate in educational training, part of the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care. Topics for the training are relevant in their lives and cover topics related to health, nutrition, hygiene, business, women’s issues and family matters. A recent topic was about the dangers of over-indebtedness. Every other month, they have access to basic health care services.

Thank you, Kiva lenders, for lending a helping hand to Priscila and her friends!
