A loan helped a member to purchase clothing.

Mujeres En Accion Group's story

Many of the women who participate in the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program had to change the way they earned income during the recent pandemic. One option that became available to them was to use online resources to advertise/sell their services and merchandise. When the pandemic ended, they continued these businesses and found them to be a successful way to earn income.

It is twenty-three year old Clara’s dream to open an online business selling clothing. She is currently a school teacher and married with a two year old daughter. One year ago, she started selling prepared foods in her town located in the department/state of San Marcos. Her first Kiva loan would enable her to start an online business selling clothing!

Clara is a member of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Mujeres en Accion” along with several other women in her area. They all speak Spanish, the official language of Guatemala. These ladies have convenience stores, and sell prepared foods and clothing. They look forward to their monthly meetings when they share stories, make loan payments, and then participate in an interactive educational training on a relevant topic. They learn about effective business management practices, how to best care for their families (nutrition, hygiene, health), and how to empower themselves (self-esteem, women’s rights/roles).

Thank you, Kiva lenders!
